Wire Artisans Guild’s theme challenge May – Blue Moon

When I started to think about this month’s theme I immediately got images of calm but dark seas at night with a pale moon hanging over, casting its white streak of moon glow on the surface where it glistened like diamonds.

That and Elvis’ Blue Hawaii. Don’t ask me why.

A circle – or call it a moon if you like - of wire wrapped sterling silver is filled with faceted rondelles of stunning royal blue Sapphires and gorgeous Aquamarine. In the centre one faceted onion briolette of Mystic Blue Quartz sparkles.

I placed the moon on a crocheted oblong backdrop in heavily oxidised sterling silver and gave it a lacy crocheted rim of 14K goldfilled wire. From the moon a chain of wrapped Sapphires and Aquamarines leads up to a simple sterling silver chain that ends in my hook style clasp.

Total length of the Mooshadow is 49cm (19.3in) and the focal is approx. 6x5cm (2.4in x 2in).

All silver is heavily oxidised and then hand polished.


The Moonshadow lays wonderfully on the chest as it is, but if you want me to shorten it for you, that is no problem at all. Just leave me a note in “Message to seller” and I’ll fix it. Or send me a convo.

So – what do you see? A poetic image of a pale moon over a dark ocean? Or the King?
